A TikToker and Target shopper was shocked to learn that Clorox wipes are unsafe on some surfaces.
Chelsie Gilbert, who's known as @chelsiegilbert1 on TikTok, posted a video on April 24 and revealed that she had been using the disinfecting wipes wrong.
'Someone told me these were not safe on food surfaces,' she said while shopping at Target.
Gilbert looked at the back of a Clorox container and saw that the company did put a statement that confirmed the disinfecting wipes are not supposed to be used on food surfaces - which are defined as areas that come into contact with foods that will be eaten.

@chelsiegilbert1 Made this in Target last week then forgot to upload it here! Maybe this is common knowledge but I didnt know and used to use these on our high chair tray!

Someone told Gilbert that the product was not safe to use on food surfaces and the TikToker discovered that was true after reading the back of the items
'I had to read it like 3 times to find it but it's on here,' said Gilbert.
Gilbert's TikTok video of her Target shopping trip has since racked in over 630,000 viewers.
Gilbert described herself on her TikTok bio as a 'SemiCrunchy mom of 3 who loves to shop.'
She said she purposely avoids toxins in her home and has been using Clorox to wipe down her children's high chairs.
According to the Clorox website, the wipes 'handle messes in the kitchen, bathroom and beyond, with a clean, refreshing scent.'
The website also states that the disinfecting wipes are safe for products made of finished wood, sealed granite, stainless steel, and on non-food-contact surfaces.
Gilbert did not say what her high chairs are made of but she seemingly assumed that the materials were safe surfaces to wipe down with the Clorox products.
'I would just wipe it off so they could eat,' she said while pointing at the Clorox wipes in the cleaning products aisle.

Once someone told Gilbert that Clorox disinfecting wipes were not meant for food surfaces, she decided to see for herself.
The mom of 3 found the fact on two Clorox disinfecting wipe products, which she said read: 'Not for use on food surfaces.'
'If you’re like me, and you used to use them on your kitchen countertops, high chairs, or your kitchen table, you’re not supposed to use them on food surfaces,' she said.
More than one TikToker was shocked to find out the truth behind the safety of Clorox disinfecting wipes on food surfaces.
Gilbert wrote in her video caption that she took to clip and revealed the information during her Target shopping trip the week before she posted it on TikTok
Gilbert, who makes sure to use toxin-free products in her household, insisted that the Clorox disinfecting wipes should not be used on food surfaces
TikTok users were divided on what to think about the statement. A few commenters were surprised while others wrote that the fact was 'common sense'
'So what am I supposed to use when we go to a restaurant? That’s all I use,' one person wrote.
At least two TikTokers wrote that the fact was 'common sense' and claimed they would never use the Clorox product on a high chair.
Multiple commenters wrote positive reviews about the seventh-generation disinfecting wipes, which a mother claimed is 'food safe to wipe the kids tables and things down.'
Others wrote down their own high chair cleaning materials, ranging from lemon juice to soapy water.
'I’ve been using the Lysol spray to clean high chairs and I wipe it with a wet rag after the disinfectant has dried,' a TikToker wrote.
'Soap and water on a rag and it cleans it up just as well.'
